After working for many years and with lots of different customers we began to see a common problem. An awful lot of business owners work “IN” the business – Delivering the business, the operational stuff – dealing with customers, delivering the service, managing the employees – doing the work of the business. They are too busy, and do not set aside enough time, or any time to work “ON” the business.
So what is the solution to this problem?
We strongly believe that the first step in working “ON” your business and should be to document your business processes. The first of our 4 cornerstones of Think Quality. Invest in PROCESS.
The next cornerstone is to Invest in TOOLS Abraham Lincoln once said “If I had 6 hours to chop down a tree I would spend the first 2 hours sharpening the axe.” To work better we need better tools, CRM Systems, software, applications that help you to be more effective and efficient.
Our third cornerstone Invest in CLARITY, we all work much better when we know and are clear on our responsibilities, Apple use a system called DRI, the Directly Responsible Individual. That person may be working in a team or in isolation, but everyone knows who is directly responsibly for each task and the teams working on them. If you don’t make someone responsible things don’t always get done, and we don’t want that to happen do we.
Our fourth corner is Invest in PEOPLE, your business is all about you, your employees and your customers, People! So they need to be educated, empowered, motivated, valued and looked after, without them there is no business.
This approach will help your business. Why? This is why:
- Cost/time savings
- Improved processes for staff
- Much improved customer services
- More time spent with customers
- Improved quality of work
- Increased speed at which work is completed
- Environmental impact (automation)
- Collaboration / teamwork
- View of bigger-picture
- Positive work environment
- Reallocation of time / savings to other beneficial efforts
- Continuous process improvement – new mindset
- Employees feel empowered and valued
Now this is by no means an extensive list but it should make you think! Think Quality!
The reason why you haven’t done this so far is simply because it seems like a very big job, a job you’re not sure how to do or where to start.
That’s where we come in. It’s not really that difficult when you know the method and you are working with the right people. We have even developed our own software to make it really simple.
